What ninja Chickens Taught Me About Evolving Leadership

Last winter, my husband brought home twenty baby chicks — just one day old. Fragile and full of potential. 🐥🐥🐥
When the weather warmed and the coop was ready, he moved them outside, thinking: Okay, now we’re good.
Then a fox snatched three of them in broad daylight, so he reinforced the fencing. 🦊
And the hits kept coming....
👉 They outgrew the run, he built an extension.
👉 When a hen was actually a rooster, he took steps to ensure he wasn't aggressive toward people, just predators. 🐓
👉 The sun scorched their space, he added shade. ⛺
👉 They launched themselves over the fence like feathered ninjas, he added height.🥷
👉 They started laying eggs, he adjusted their diet. 🥚
He didn’t blame the birds. He didn’t cling to how it should’ve gone. With each new challenge, he made a choice to pivot.
That’s the quiet power of leadership in motion...
Let’s Unpack It! 💼
Leadership isn’t about never being caught off guard.

It’s about how quickly you choose to lead from a powerful perspective and move from judgement [below] to curiosity [above]; from victimhood [below] to ownership [above]; and from entitlement [below] to adaptability [above].
And still... the work isn’t done. It’s never done. Because the environment shifts. The needs change. The expectations and goals evolve.
When leadership is grounded in awareness, appreciation, and acceptance, you stop flinching at the chaos — and start responding with clarity, purpose, and direction.
Your team feels it. Trust builds. People stop bracing for impact and start leaning into growth.
Because — just like those chickens — humans thrive in environments where their leader is meeting the moment.
📌 [The Powerful Perspective]
Leadership isn’t about locking things down. It’s about how you show up when the flock jailbreaks at sunrise.
If your “coop” feels like it’s one flap away from a full-blown mutiny, it might be time to reinforce, realign, or rebuild.
Let’s figure out your next above-the-line move.
💛 Take the Co-Parenting Compass Quiz to discover where you’re chicken-wrangling strategy is effective or where reinforcements might be helpful.
